September Meeting Recap

We held our September meeting this morning and pulled the winning name for the quilt. If you are reading this Brenda Bahnsen, return the phone call that was placed to you this morning to claim your quilt.  (Like she's reading this, right?)  Congratulations to Brenda and to the guild for an outstanding job of selling tickets this year. I believe the total earned is the highest amount ever for the guild. And way to go Maura! You rock with over $300 sold!

Anyway, there was a lot of stuff to cover at the meeting but I have pictures of the best stuff here -
The Sew and Tell! We sure do have a lot of talented people in this guild! It is a pleasure to see your work. Thanks for sharing.

These pictures are not in the order in which they were taken. Once I saved them to the computer, they were sorted and alphabetized and I didn't want to take the time to resort them.

Carolyn has her Circle of Geese top done. She rearranged the blocks again to get the "mocha looking" center circle. The dots look great and now I feel like I want some cappuccino and candy!

Deb L. made this adorable cat quilt and Doris G. quilted it. If you look closely you'll see the word "meow" quilted a few times as well as some butterflies. It's adorable and Purr-fect!!

Here's Deb's Circle of Geese. She's going to add another border and I can't wait to see that! Will it be Irish looking or Christmas? I guess we just have to be patient.

Donna's Circle of Geese is partially quilted. I love the outside border! This is going to match a Four Patch Posie quilt she's making. Gorgeous!!

Doris G's Circle of Geese just glows with that center circle of yellow. The light colored border adds just the perfect touch and doesn't compete with the geese. Beautiful!!

Doris W. has her Circle of Geese ready to quilt. These fabrics look great together and the purple border is perfect!

Eileen went above and beyond with the border on her Circle of Geese. It's really cool that all the geese and the colored borders are all the same fabric. Awesome!!

Janet just got this back from the quilter and it is wonderful! This was one of the mystery quilts from a guild retreat a few years ago (maybe 4 or 5). Don't you love finishing UFOs?

Remember Jerry, Joanne's brother who joined us for the August meeting? Well here's his second quilt top. Do you recognize the pattern? It's an adaptation of Joanne's pattern "Framed Rectangles" that she used for her raffle quilt a couple of years ago.
You know, the one Pam Baur won.  :-)

This is Joanne's adaptation of the Gateway to Paradise pattern. She's working on one in batiks and it looks like stained glass!

This is Joanne's Easy Striped Table Runner that has only five seams and no mitered corners. It's quilted in glow in the dark thread and she's teaching this at Country Fabrics in October.

Kathy G. is just about ready for Halloween with this Circle of Geese. She was on vacation and hasn't worked on it since the workshop but she's thinking about border options. Got any ideas? Give her a call because I think she'd like some input.

Kathy W.'s Circle of Geese is fabulous with that blue border. She used the same fabric for the back and it is just gorgeous. She's got it pinned and ready to quilt!

Kathy's been a busy girl. Here is a braided table runner she made using left over half hexagons. Look closely, I think it looks like a huge flock of skinny geese.  :-)

Linda's been busy and finished up her Circle of Geese top. Doesn't that little pink border look terrific? I wonder how she's going to bind this. I guess I just have to wait and see.

Speaking of Linda, here's another quilt she's finished using pieces and parts from Carolyn and Jeanette's mother.
This is really neat to see in person.

Check out the hand quilting Linda has done on the quilt. Fabulous!!

Pam B's light background completely changes the look of the Circle of Geese! These fabrics make it look so soft and comfy, and I love the color of the inside border. Gorgeous!

Pat has a jump on us all with this rabbit wall hanging. It looks like she's ready for Easter while I haven't even thought about Halloween or Thanksgiving yet. She's probably already done with her Christmas shopping too!  :-)

Keeping in touch with the paper piecing theme, Sue pieced her borders and I think they are perfect with the Circle of Geese! Love this!

Here are the Pillowcase Queens, Linda and Doris W.! Now I'm not going to get in the middle of their little contest, but Doris wants everyone to know she made one more than Linda this month. Sounds like a challenge to me!

And finally, here's a group picture of all the Circle of Geese that flew into the meeting room today. Love them! Thanks ladies.
You all did awesome work.

See you at the October meeting. I'm guessing that we'll begin to see some Christmas presents during that Sew and Tell!

Paper Piecing Workshop

Following are some (ok, a lot) of pictures from the paper piecing workshop that many of the guild members attended August 25-26th. Kare and I had a great time and I think (or at least I hope) that everyone else had fun and learned a lot. By the way, thanks for your patience with my voice. The voice is back, and if you ask my husband I haven't stopped talking since its return.  :-)

Now I know I'm going to make a mistake in labeling these, but I'm going to try anyway. Enjoy!

One quarter of Beth' block prior to trimming.

Carolyn is organizing and designing! This is Dot-tastic!

This may be scary, but there was a consultation about someone's block layout. This could be a joke. How many Milan Quilt Builders does it take to put together a wallhanging?  No one knows because we never made a decision.  :-)

Donna has made a design change (not a mistake!) for the center circle. Looks good!!

Doris G. has a shining set of geese! (Are they albino?)

Kathy W's, I think?? Whoever's it is, it looks great.

Pam B's with a light background looks so soft!

Kathy G's Halloween version looks fun! Makes me think of a bowl full of trick or treat candy.

Doris W's patterned background adds a lot of texture and movement to this wallhanging!

Sorry I don't know who's this is.  Pam Br.??  :-(

Roberta's ???

Deb L's green geese will be ready for the green beer on St. Patrick's Day! Or a red border and bow and this would be a great Christmas quilt.

Linda's quilt before borders looks very comfy and country to me.

Roberta is ready for borders! Love it!

Sue's looks like stained glass with the light behind it!

Oops! I think Jeanette was tired or she has some very unruly geese!

Participants have been asked to bring their project, no matter how far along it is, to the September meeting. I'll get some pictures and post an update.
