For our January, 2014 "program," members were asked to bring their first quilt, last quilt and one of which they were most proud or had the most meaning. I'm guessing here, but since we had close to 70 quilts shown that day, I think the members liked the idea of this type of show and tell. :-)
Ok, here are the disclaimers about the pictures.
1. The pictures are shown in alphabetical order by members' first name, not in the order of which they were shown.
2. Please don't judge my photography skills or lack thereof. I apologize for some of the funny faces, off-center pictures, etc. If it really bothers you, you are free to offer your photography talents for pictures the next time. :-)
3. I'm hoping I didn't miss anyone or credit a quilt to the wrong person. If I did, please let me know and I'll make the correction. I am apologizing in advance if it did happen. Of course, I wouldn't mind being credited with making any of these quilts. They are wonderful!
Ok, here we go with the pictures.
April started this quilt-as-you-go quilt a while ago, but I'm certainly not judging her for not having it together yet. I know a few others who have not completed their first projects. She's completed a large number of projects nd most recently is making these miniatures and vests.
I love the colors in Becky's quilt. This is so much fun!!
Beth made this little beauty using a jelly roll! This is a bit different than the quilt the she asked Doris W. to piece for her mom. It is spectacular!
Like many of the guild members, Carolyn started quilting in the 1980's and made a sampler for her first quilt. She also brought the quilt signed by many of the members and an awesome star quilt.
Donna shared a first quilt that she hopes to finish one day, and her fabulous Latte quilt.
I couldn't believe it when Doris W. (AKA - Pillow Queen) was warning us about the fabric choices in her first quilt. I love it, and it is pieced and quilted beautifully, just like her more recent creations!
Eileen hasn't been quilting for long, but she makes really beautiful quilts that she usually hand-quilts. She's on a roll with making a series of memory quilts and I think she's figured out how to make them look great!
Fran is quite the quilter. Just check out her creations, two of which are for Quilts of Valor.
Jeanette is also a fabulous quilter and I love all of her creations, whether they are for Quilts of Valor, a bold sampler, or a more traditional look.
I (Joanne) brought the quilt I made for my parent's 50th anniversary. I didn't piece all the blocks, but I did put them together and quilt it. Gerald designed the center block, and this was before he was a quilter. My later projects range from an Ohio quilt contest entry/winner to some recent more modern quilts.
Judy J. brought the first quilt she made while taking a class from Joanne and Kare. She sure has been bitten by the quilting bug and has become an awesome and prolific quilter.
Judy K. got a touch of the small quilt fever and made this colorful and fun mug rug. She also makes large quilts like her fabulous black, red and white creation below!
Judy M. started with this awesome quilt that is full of applique and lots small pieces. Check out her Dear Jane quilt and you'll see that she continues to work in those tiny pieces. (I'm envious of her dedication and talent!)
Kathy G. shared her first quilt - a lover's knot, and a funny story to go along with it. I love this!
As we all know, Kathy W. is very talented and makes lots of quilts. Here are just a few. Can you believe that the lone star quilt was her first quilt? WOW!!
Mary shared her first quilts that included lots of hand embroidery. These are adorable! Like many others, Mary also makes a fair number of sampler quilts and they are beautiful!
Pam B. is a relatively new quilter and showed a table runner that she said was her first quilted project. Well, Judy M. corrected that statement and shared Pam's real first quilt. It was made back in college. Pam has ventured into other types of quilting and has also been working on a few Quilts of Valor.
I'm not sure how it happened, but Pam Br. was successful at avoiding the camera in both of her quilt pictures. Aren't these beautiful? She always does GREAT work!
Pat M. doesn't have her first quilt, but she does have a picture. (We all should be taking pictures of our quilts!) She also shared some more recent creations and showed us how she uses creative piecing methods for her quilt backs.
Pat S. is also a relatively new quilter, but you'd never know it when you see her creations. Big or small, they are awesome!
I think perhaps Pat offended the official quilt holder (Gerald) when she told him she didn't need his help on this one. We all just thought he could use a break after handling so many quilts.
We all know that Rhonda must never sleep because she always has spectacular projects to show during the sew and tell portions of the meetings. This day was no different. FABULOUS!!
Sue shared her first quilted project, a wonderful frog quilt. I love how this looks and love the colors in her most recent creation. (I think the fabrics she uses are a wonderful reflection of her bright personality!)
If you think you've seen this before, you're correct. Both Sue and Judy J. have made this ADORABLE quilt.
I am both honored and humbled to be a part of this group of very talented quilters.
